5 Ways to Prepare for a Successful Time at the Gym After a Long Day

prepare for the gymWhen the Going Gets Tough…

Sometimes, going to the gym after a long, busy day can be hard. When you’re tired, hungry, and are thinking of all the other things that need to get done, it is easy to find excuses to skip. Even though having days off is beneficial, you want to get into the habit of preparing yourself to have a successful trip to the gym. Even after a long, hard day, here are 5 tips that will help you get prepared, excited, and pumped to go to the gym!

1. Make Everyday “Take Your Gym Bag to Work with You Day”
Stopping at home before you go to the gym makes it more likely that you will skip the gym. Having your gym clothes with you at work, even changing into them before you get to the gym, will put you one step closer to having a successful gym day.

2. Eat 1-2 Hours before you Plan to Workout
Everybody is different, but we all need food to give us energy. Having a healthy snack a couple hours before you get off work and plan to head to the gym will ensure you have the energy you need to make it an awesome workout. Apple slices with peanut butter, hard-boiled eggs and a slice of toast, or a natural energy bar (perfect for on-the-go) are just a few great energy-boosting options.

3. Plan to Succeed
If you have a plan of what you are going to do once you get to the gym, you are more likely to stay and accomplish it. You are also more likely to get a better workout and feel more confident while at the gym. If you are new to working out, or often find yourself glued to the same thing every time you go, try switching up your workouts. And don’t be afraid to ask a trainer at your gym for some advice. A variety of gyms offer a one-time orientation to help you become familiar with everything they have to offer. Don’t be discouraged; we all have to start somewhere!

4. Find that Jam that doesn’t Fail
On your way to the gym, rather than listing all the reasons you don’t want to go and all the other things you need to be doing instead–laundry, dinner, etc.– keep yourself motivated by listening to your favorite pump-up music. Taking your tunes into the gym with you is also a great way to stay focused and excited throughout your entire workout.

5. Keep your Eye on the Prize
Remember why you are going, the awesome benefits you will get, and all the positive outcomes of working out. Whether it be muscle gain, weight loss, or just to maintain a healthy lifestyle, stay focused on the goal you have set for yourself, and remember that every day counts. One step into the gym is one step closer to a happier, healthier you!
Sometimes life gets hectic, but don’t let it get in the way of you taking care of yourself and creating positive lifestyle habits. You got this!
